08:00–09:00 Sequence
Pre-cash-open hour classified as bull / bear / mixed via higher-highs and higher-lows. Bull or bear classifications carry into the morning RTH about 60% of the time.
updated 2026-04-28The setup
The 08:00–09:00 ET hour is the last hour before cash open. When that hour prints a clean directional sequence — strict higher-highs and higher-lows, or strict lower-highs and lower-lows — the morning RTH session tends to extend in the same direction.
When the hour is mixed (no clean sequence), no signal fires. The model is explicit about not over-classifying.
This is the lower-confidence sibling of 0809 HOLD RUNAWAY (same window, different filter). HOLD RUNAWAY needs the zone to hold post-open; SEQ just needs the pre-open hour to have a clean shape.
Line ships on our chart HUD as 0809 SEQ HIGH / 0809 SEQ LOW.
Entry rules
- Slice: 12 × 5-min bars from 08:00 to 09:00 ET
- Bull classifier: ≥ 7 of 11 bar-pair comparisons show higher-high AND higher-low
- Bear classifier: ≥ 7 of 11 show lower-high AND lower-low
- Mixed: anything else → no signal
- Target: the sequence high (bull) or low (bear), plus a small extension
- TTL: 11:00 ET (fading edge after silver-bullet hour)
Why Tier 2
Real but modest edge — 60% on a multi-hour target is decent but well behind the heavyweight close-direction signals like VWAP REGIME and SB CONTINUATION. Mostly used as morning-direction confirmation before sizing into a primary entry.
History
- 2026-04-28 — Page created. The strict-monotone classifier is intentionally conservative; relaxing the threshold from 7 → 5 doubled the sample size but cut the edge to under 53%.
